Understanding Roles and Permissions
Roles allow admins to control what different users can access and what actions they can perform within the platform. This helps organizations tailor access based on each user’s responsibilities while keeping sensitive information and actions restricted to the right people.
This article walks through the concepts you'll need before creating your first custom role. For step-by-step instructions, see How to create & edit a custom role?
Default Roles
These default roles have a fixed set of permissions and are available on the platform to assist your organisation in granting basic access control from day one.
Role | Description |
|---|---|
Super Admin | Full permissions granted with unrestricted access to the entire platform. |
Admin | Permissions grant broad administrative access across modules. |
Module-level admin roles (Goals Admin, Survey Admin etc) | Permissions pertaining to specific modules are granted to each module admin. |
HRBP | Permissions granted for broad Administrative access across modules, with some limitations. |
If none of these fit what you need, that's where a Custom Role comes in. You can select a combination of permissions to create a custom role and then assign it to specific employees.

Good to know
- One role per user, for now. Each employee holds exactly one role at a time. Assigning a new role replaces their current one; it doesn't add to it.
- Changes apply on the next session refresh. If you update a role's permissions, affected users will see the change reflected the next time their session refreshes.
- Super Admin is protected. No one can add or remove someone from Super Admin access except a Super Admin themselves.
