Understanding Goal Levels
Every goal in ThriveSparrow has a goal level. The level describes the scope of the goal, whether it’s an objective for the whole organization, a department, a team, or one person.
Available Goal Levels with Thrive
Goal level | What it’s for | Example |
|---|---|---|
Organization | Company-wide objectives that everyone contributes to | Grow annual revenue by 30% |
Department | Objectives owned by a department | Engineering: reduce release cycle time to 2 weeks |
Team | Objectives owned by a team within a department | Platform team: achieve 99.9% uptime |
Individual | Objectives owned by one employee | Complete AWS certification by Q3 |
Note: Goal Level and visibility are separate settings. The Level describes what the goal is for. Visibility controls who can see it.
Who Can Create Each Level
Role | Goal levels they can create |
|---|---|
Admins and Goal Writers | Organization, Department, Team, Individual |
Department Heads | Department goals for members of their department |
Managers | Team goals for their direct reportees |
Employees | Individual goals for themselves |
Note: Admins can turn goal creation on or off for Department Heads, Managers, and Employees under Goals → Configuration → Goal Creation Settings.
Linking a Parent Goal
Linking a goal to a parent goal shows how it contributes to a bigger objective. The child goal’s progress rolls up into the parent goal progress.
Goal level rule
A parent goal must be at the same level or a higher level than the child goal.
If your goal is… | You can link it to a parent at… |
|---|---|
Individual | Individual, Team, Department, or Organization level |
Team | Team, Department, or Organization level |
